I've lived my life basically making the circle tour around Lake Michigan. I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin then ended up in the Upper Peninsula (the UP) of Michigan for grad school and spent some time in lower Michigan for medical school and residency in East Lansing and Ann Arbor respectively. When I was little, I dreamed of moving to Chicago some day and now here I am! Even though we live downtown, my partner and I still enjoy getting outside in a variety of ways including biking, hiking, camping or skiing/snowboarding. I also love baking and cooking when I have some free time! I won the pulmonary division chili cook off this fall, and you can often find baked treats in clinic with me when I'm not on service! The best thing about being a fellow at Lurie is how collaborative all the different subspecialties are with each other—my favorite places to do consults in the hospital are in the PICU and cardiac ICU! This interdisciplinary collaboration extends into academic and scholarly projects too. So far, I haven't met a single person who isn't excited about not only their own work, but also about sponsoring trainee education and development in academia. I know I'll come out of these three years of training with a solid clinical foundation and the tools I need to be successful in research early in my career.

Hi, I'm Patty! I was born and raised in Miami, FL in a Cuban/Puerto Rican household where Spanish was our first language. I moved to Chicago for residency in hopes of escaping the humidity and finally being able to experience all four seasons! I wanted to stay for fellowship not only because I love this city, but because I so greatly enjoyed my pediatrics training at Lurie Children’s! Pulmonary fellowship has been no different… everyone is so warm, welcoming, and kind. The pulmonary attendings love to teach, and we have great relationships with ancillary staff and people in different specialties throughout the hospital. We see patients with such a wide variety of pathologies (both on the inpatient and outpatient side) -- I have no doubt that graduating fellows will be well-prepared to start whatever career they choose. My interest is in cystic fibrosis, and racial/ethnic disparities among this patient population.
