Dr. Weinstein treats patients with all forms of childhood and adolescent cancer. Her primary areas of expertise include retinoblastoma (the most common form of eye cancer in children), pediatric lymphomas (both Non-Hodgkin and Hodgkin subtypes and post-transplantation lymphomas), and a group of disorders called the histiocytoses, including Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases)
I am a Pediatric Infectious Diseases physician and scientist. Research in my laboratory is focused on understanding how viruses infect and cause pathogenesis in the pediatric brain. The approach that we take is to identify clinical viral isolates associated with pediatric infection and poor neurologic outcomes, and bring these isolates back to the lab to assess the mechanism by which this occurs. Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Hospital-Based Medicine)
I am a clinician heavily involved in quality improvement including conducting projects personally as well as overseeing a large pediatric program's quality improvement activities. These activities have led to multiple presentations and publications in all areas of pediatrics. Activities with national implications include developing a technique for securing endotracheal tubes in neonates and development of a bundle of care practices to prevent nosocomial airway infections in hospitalized neonates. I served as the medical director of the emergency department at Children's Memorial and Lurie Children's hospital. I'm currently the medical director of risk management.
