As a physician-engineer, Dr. Xu is interested in the translation of breakthrough electrical engineering, materials science, and health information technology towards addressing major unmet clinical needs. As Medical Director of the Center of Bio-Integrated Electronics, he has expertise within flexible device platforms, specifically phototherapy systems, addressing a wide range of dermatological and non-dermatological clinical needs. Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Cardiology) and Medical Education
Dr. Patel is a Pediatric Cardiologist with subspecialized training in Cardiac Imaging. Her research interests lie at the intersection of pediatric and fetal cardiology and clinical medical ethics. She explores the societal, ethical, and legal implications of emerging technology and intervention as it relates to medical management and shared decision-making in patients with congenital heart disease. She also mentors medical students, directs a Bioethics program for medical trainees, is the fellowship director of the Pediatric Cardiology Advanced Imaging Fellowship, and is involved in faculty development.
Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology)
I am a pediatric endocrinologist with a specific interest in differences of sex development and puberty. I serve as the endocrinologist for the Gender & Sex Development Program, a multi-disciplinary program caring for children with differences in sex development and for those who are gender non-conforming. My research interests are in improving care for those with differences in sex development and those who are gender non-conforming, with an emphasis on fertility preservation for these populations.

Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases)
I am the Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. I lead efforts to promote judicious use of antibiotics and limit the emergence of antibiotic resistance. My clinical and research interests include antimicrobial stewardship, multi-drug resistant infections, and patient safety and quality.

Instructor of Pediatrics (Rheumatology)
Dr. Patel joined the Division of Rheumatology in 2020. She is experienced in all areas of general pediatric rheumatology but has a special clinical and research interest in complex rheumatic diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic vasculitis. Dr. Patel is fascinated by the pathophysiology of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. She enjoys taking on complex cases with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and tailoring immunosuppressive therapies to help patients achieve the best quality of life possible. Dr. Ryan has been a member of the Division of Hospital Based Medicine at Northwestern Medicine and Lurie Children's Hospital since 2005.
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology)
I am a pediatric endocrinologist engaged in clinical care and clinical research. My clinical interests are in the care of children with long-term endocrine sequelae of childhood cancer, thyroid disorders, growth disorders, and disorders of puberty. I participate in the multidisciplinary STAR (Survivors Taking Action and Responsiblity) clinic and participate in the Fertility & Hormone Preservation & Restoration Program.
Professor of Pediatrics (Neonatology)
Dr. Hamvas has a longstanding interest in genetic contributions to lung diseases that affect newborns, children and adults, he has combined his clinical interests in the care of newborn respiratory diseases with an integrated investigative program to understand the modifiable factors that influence outcomes of newborns.
