Jeffrey B Brown

Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition)

My primary clinical and research interest is IBD (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) where I am the medical director of the IBD program at Lurie Children's, which now includes physician/APN/PA specialists, a psychologist, nurse clinicians, dieticians, and a dedicated social worker. I focus on translational and clinical research, including investigation of novel biomarkers, collaboration with overlapping specialists at Lurie and participation in numerous clinical trials. We are an active participant on the international IBD quality improvement and research consortium, Improve Care Now.

Kyle L MacQuarrie

Instructor of Pediatrics (Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation)

Dr. MacQuarrie is a physician-scientist who specializes in pediatric solid tumors. He is involved both with the care of children with such tumors, as well as basic scientific studies relevant to understanding tumor biology.

Katelyn E Burgess

Instructor of Pediatrics (Hospital-Based Medicine)

As a pediatric hospitalist, Dr. Burgess cares for children in a variety of clinical settings, including taking care of patients who are admitted to Lurie Children's Hospital, and seeing children at Lurie's Immediate Care clinic in Lincoln Park. She is also the Site Leader for Lurie's pediatric consultant group at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where she helps to care for pediatric rehab patients.Additionally, Dr. Burgess supervises pediatrics residents at their primary care clinic in Lincoln Park, and she volunteers as a Clinical Skills Small Group Leader for medical students at Northwestern Univers...

Lauren M Pachman

Professor of Pediatrics (Rheumatology)

Dr. Pachman's translational team studies Juvenile Myositis (JM), an often chronic pediatric systemic vasculopathy associated with skin inflammation and proximal muscle weakness of unknown etiology. Her laboratory has identified genetic, immunologic and environmental factors that play a role in the onset of symptoms and govern outcome. RNASeq, miRNA and Gene expression micro array studies of untreated children's diagnostic muscle biopsies identified massive dysregulation of IFN-a induced genes in JDM. Avani V Shah

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine)

I am Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. My focus includes high risk asthma and medical education. I also serve as the Fellowship Director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship.

Norrina Bai Allen

Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine (Epidemiology) and Pediatrics

Dr. Allen specializes in cardiovascular epidemiology with a focus on health services research. Her research interests include the effect of neighborhood and environment on cardiovascular disease, disparities in quality of care and outcomes as well as the use of large databases to examine these questions.

Zachary E Pittsenbarger

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine)

I joined the department of pediatrics, division of Emergency Medicine in 2013 and since that time I Ihave been clinically active seeing patients at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago's Emergency Care Center as well seeing patients at both of the satelite pediatric EDs.  I devote time to other projects outside of clinical care that are driven by his experiences in the ED.  Most of my projects outside my clinical responsibilities are based on a desire to provide more efficient, equitable, safer, and evidence based care to the patients I see in the ED.  I hope through work in qu...

Dr. Spewak is a hospital pediatrician and director of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Educational Support Program and co-director of the Lurie Children's-McGaw Medical Center Medical Education Elective. Jennifer D Kusma

Instructor of Pediatrics (Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care)

I am a primary care pediatrician within the Division of Advanced General Pediatrics, and have a particular academic interest in health care policy and understanding how children access health care. I am passionate about improving access to primary care for disadvantaged youth, and having safety net policies in place so that all children have access to high quality care.
