Batul Kaj-Carbaidwala

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition)

I am a board certified pediatric gastroenterologist with advanced training in intestinal rehabilitation, hepatology and transplant, and my clinical activities are divided across these areas. I work with wonderful colleagues in the Lurie Intestinal Rehab and Transplant Program, who provide coordinated, multidisciplinary care to patients with short gut syndrome and associated disorders, including those that require bowel transplantation. Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine)

I graduated from Loyola Medical School and did pediatric residency and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at Children's Memorial Hospital / Northwestern University. I served as the medical director of the emergency department at Children's Memorial and Lurie Children's hospital. I'm currently the medical director of risk management. I'm very involved in disaster planning for children and hospital preparedness.

Dr. Marisa Klein-Gitelman has been the division head in pediatric rheumatology since 2002. She has expertise in pediatric lupus, vasculitis, uveitis and neuro inflammatory diseases. She has published/co-authored over 100 journal articles, case reports and reviews, 107 abstracts, 10 chapters in textbooks, and has received over 3500 citations. Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine)

I came to the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital as a Pediatric Emergency Medicine attending after graduating fellowship in 2014. I am currently the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship and serve as a College Mentor at the Feinberg School of Medicine.

I am the Director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. My clinical interests center on hemoglobin disorders, including sickle cell disease and thalassemia, for which I am also a clinical investigator with active research programs. My major research interests focus on exercise responses, inflammation and vascular function and their relationship to cardiopulmonary fitness, clinical outcomes and physical activity levels in children and young adults with sickle cell anemia.
