Professor of Dermatology (Dermatopathology), Pathology and Pediatrics

Selected to Best Doctors in America 2019-2020, Dr Gerami is the director of the Skin Cancer Institute of Northwestern Medical Group (SCIN-Med) and the director of the Melanoma Program in the Skin Cancer Institute and the Melanoma clinic in the department of Dermatology. His clinical and research interests are primarily focused on melanoma skin cancer, atypical nevi and borderline melanocytic tumors such as Spitz tumors which maybe difficult to classify. Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Neonatology)

I have intense curiosity and passion regarding infants with respiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension. Through clinical and research efforts, I have been studying the patterns of disease progression in infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), and the impact of pulmonary vascular disease in these patients. Jill H Samis

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology)

I am a pediatric endocrinologist engaged in clinical care and clinical research.  My clinical interests are in the care of children with long-term endocrine sequelae of childhood cancer, thyroid disorders, growth disorders, and disorders of puberty.  I participate in the multidisciplinary STAR (Survivors Taking Action and Responsiblity) clinic and participate in the Fertility & Hormone Preservation & Restoration Program.

David O Walterhouse

Professor of Pediatrics (Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation)

My primary clinical research interest lies in the area of clinical trials for pediatric patients with soft tissue sarcomas. I am a member of the soft tissue sarcoma committee of the Children's Oncology Group.  I have served as study chair for a group-wide phase III COG clinical trial for rhabdomyosarcoma. I also serve as Institutional Principal Investigator for COG. My primary basic research interest lies in understanding the regulation and function of the GLI1 oncogene, as well as understanding the role of Hedgehog-GLI1 signal transduction in pediatric solid tumors.

Christina M Barriteau

Dr. Christina Barriteau is a pediatric hematologist and transfusion medicine specialist. She is Medical Director of the blood bank at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Barriteau's clinical interests include sickle cell disease, pediatric transfusion medicine and health equity.

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition)

My primary interest in pediatric liver disease and liver transplantation is the immune mechanism of neonatal liver disease, in particular gestational alloimmune liver disease (GALD) and biliary atresia. Through clinical research on outcomes in GALD and laboratory research on the mechanism of disease, our group has made a significant impact that has advanced the care of infants and mothers affected by GALD. Mary C Pierce

Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine) and Preventive Medicine

Dr. Pierce’s research interest focuses primarily on injuries in children with an emphasis on differentiating abusive from accidental trauma. Dr Pierce collaborates with a multi-disciplinary lab with emphasis on injury biomechanics. This lab combines the expertise of medicine and engineering and utilizes both a clinical and an experimental approach. Dr. Pierce’s research focus is the development of injury plausibility models, including clinical decision rules, for differentiating abusive and accidental trauma in the young child that combines medical, social, biologic, and engineering knowledge....
