Fourth Year Medical Students

The Department of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg) offers a variety of elective courses and sub-internship experiences for fourth-year medical students.

Pediatric sub-internships provide an in-depth inpatient clinical experience for students interested in aspects of children’s health, particularly for those interested in careers in pediatrics, med-peds, family medicine, or emergency medicine, but all interested students are welcome to apply or enroll.

Specialty electives available to fourth-year medical students offer excellent clinical exposure to subspecialty medicine. These electives, primarily based on the outpatient experience, afford significant opportunity for personal interaction with pediatric faculty.  Throughout the elective, focus is on learning to care for young patients with a wide range of conditions.  Visiting students interested in potential pediatric elective experiences can learn more on the medical school website.

General Pediatric fourth-year electives are designed to increase a student’s exposure to general pediatrics in broader range of patient care settings.
